Dia de los Muertos Celebration

Celebrate Día de los Muertos at the Garden at this two-day family-oriented festival that uses music, dance and storytelling to explore the beauty and meaning of this special holiday. Children will love the crafts and face painting and the whole family will enjoy the entertainment and browsing the Mercado filled with art, jewelry and other wares.

Each day ends with La Procesión. Based on an ancient tradition, guests and performers will march as a community through the Garden to honor the departed. La Procesión concludes with a traditional burning of penas (sorrows).

Ofrenda Exhibition

Webster Auditorium

Ofrenda, or Offering, is part of the traditional Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos. The altars are original pieces specifically created for this celebration by local artists. Learn more.

Live Entertainment and Community Altar

October 29 - October 30 | 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Boppart Courtyard

Enjoy music, dance, and storytelling that explore the beauty and symbols of this special holiday. Guests are welcome to photograph the community altar and leave a paper flower or note in memory of a special loved one. 

El Mercado

October 29 - October 30 | 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Dorrance Hall and ​Boppart Courtyard

Visit with local and international artists and vendors at the Garden’s Mercado. From paintings, sculptures, and photographs to traditional pastries – discover elements of the American Southwest, Mexico, Latin America, and beyond.

La Procesión

October 29 and October 30 | 5 - 6 p.m.

Each day, the Día de los Muertos festivities at the Garden will conclude with La Procesión or Procession. La Procesión represents the ancient tradition of marching as a community to burial sites in order to honor those who have passed on.
