Celebrate Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, at the Garden during this two day family-oriented festival filled with music, dance, and storytelling that explore the beauty and symbols of this special holiday. This colorful tradition, celebrated throughout the American Southwest, Latin America, and Mexico, honors departed loved ones in a festive setting. In addition to enjoying live entertainment, families can browse the Mercado, make and add paper flowers to the Community Altar, and enjoy delicious food. Enjoy delicious food and browse the Mercado filled with art, jewelry, and other wares. At the end of each day, families are encouraged to participate in La Procesión.

Food, drinks and face painting are all available for purchase.

Ofrenda Exhibition

Webster Auditorium

Ofrenda, or Offering, is part of the traditional Mexican celebration of Día de los Muertos. The altars are original pieces specifically created for this celebration by local artists. Learn more.

Cuisine and Culture of Día de los Muertos | Purchase Tickets

Join us for a delicious evening as we unveil the secrets and cultural traditions of Día de los Muertos. This event features Zarco Guerrero, acclaimed multimedia artist and community art advocate, discussing the history and customs of the holiday, followed by a sit-down dinner catered by Rosita’s Place—called by reviewers the most authentic Mexican food in Phoenix. A folkloric dance presentation will conclude the event in grand style.

Guests will receive a welcome margarita upon arrival. Cash bar available serving beer, wine and margaritas. This program is sponsored by Rosita’s Place Fine Mexican Food.

Live Entertainment and Community Alter

Boppart Courtyard

Enjoy music, dance, and storytelling that explore the beauty and symbols of this special holiday. Guests are welcome to photograph the community altar and leave a paper flower or note in memory of a special loved one. 

El Mercado

Dorrance Hall and ​Boppart Courtyard

Visit with local and international artists and vendors at the Garden’s Mercado. Discover elements of the American Southwest, Mexico, Latin America and beyond including calacas and catrinas, whimsical décor, jewelry, fine art and much more.

La Procesión

October 31 & November 1 | 5 - 6:30 p.m.

La Procesión is based on the ancient tradition of marching as a community to burial sites in order to honor those who have passed on. At the Garden, guests and costumed performers will march in festive procession to remember their loved ones. This treasured annual highlight of this event will be on both Saturday and Sunday this year. La Procesión concludes each evening with performances and a traditional burning of penas (sorrows).
