Girl Scouts Programs Desert Discovery

Desert Discovery programs create a fun and memorable experience for girls as they explore life in the desert. Scouts will receive a participation patch after completing activities that help fulfill Girl Scout badge requirements. All programs are event style. All Girl Scout levels welcome along with leaders, parents and family members. Pre-registration and payment required for all attending. Only Registered Girl Scouts will receive a patch and any take home materials.

Sonoran Search

Become a nocturnal adventurer! Play, learn, and discover summer nights in the Sonoran Desert during a special evening of our popular Flashlight Tours program. Girl Scouts who complete various desert night themed activities will receive the Sonoran Search Patch.

Bountiful Butterflies

Saturday / October 13 / 10 a.m.-Noon

Girl Scouts metamorphose into beautiful butterflies as they journey through the life cycle of a butterfly and learn what a butterfly needs in order to survive and thrive. Scouts search for each part of the life cycle when they visit the Garden’s butterfly pavilion. Girl Scouts who complete various butterfly themed activities will receive the Bountiful Butterflies Patch.

Bugs and Beyond

Saturday / December 8 / 10 a.m.- Noon.

Saturday / February 9 / 10 a.m. - Noon

Scouts: $10 / Chaperones and Family Members: $10

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No! It’s a bug. Girl Scouts explore through close observation and hands-on activities what makes a bug an insect and why we need them for our survival. Scouts will use microscopes to get face-to-face with these fascinating insects. Girl Scouts who complete various insect themed activities will receive the Bugs and Beyond Patch.

Let plants be your muse as you explore how smell, color, sound and texture can inspire different types of art. Girl Scouts engage their senses to interpret, design and create nature-inspired art in the Garden.

Saturday / April 13 / 1 p.m.- 3 p.m.

Scouts: $10 / Chaperones and Family Members: $10

Be ready to get your hands dirty as Girl Scouts explore how to grow their own garden in the low desert. Explore different soil types, investigate how to choose the perfect plant for your growing zone, and take home a garden experiment to keep the discoveries coming!

  • Payment is due at the time of registration. We accept major credit cards.
  • Checks will not be issued for refunds less than $10.

Cancelation and Refund Policy

  • Programs run regardless of weather. There are no refunds due to weather. The Garden reserves the right to close for safety during extreme weather conditions. In this case your visit will be rescheduled.
