National Public Gardens Day was created in 2008 to drive local and national exposure to the importance of building vibrant, relevant gardens committed to community enrichment and environmental responsibility through community engagement, sustainable practices and conversation. The intent is to raise awareness of public gardens and the important role they play in their communities and on a global scale.

USA Today named Desert Botanical Garden one of this year’s 10 best botanical gardens in the nation. A panel of horticulture experts and editors for the paper’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel awards nominated Desert Botanical Garden; the public selected the final group by voting in a four-week online contest. Desert Botanical Garden finished fourth.
