North of historic Webster Center are the Garden’s original plantings, a dramatic reminder of the vision and legacy of our founders. The Heritage Garden plan incorporates two unique and dynamic areas that will showcase the Garden’s oldest plantings and feature views of the popular giant cardons.

The Garden will expand the Butterfly Pavilion and improve educational opportunities by incorporating a Caterpillar Nursery and an Emergence Chamber to let visitors view all stages of a butterfly’s life. Relocated near the Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Loop Trail, the new pavilion will provide welcoming activity spaces for children, families and audiences of all ages.

Over its 75-year history, the Garden has created collections of desert plants second to none. To provide world class care for our world class collections, we will construct a state-of-the-art Horticulture Center that will accommodate our plants in optimal conditions, support exceptional learning opportunities and showcase behind-the-scenes activities for Garden visitors.

Launched during our 75th anniversary year, The Saguaro Initiative is a five-year plan to invest $18 million in the Garden as a research institution, to take a stronger, regional leadership role in conservation, and to create exciting new educational programming and exhibits that inform and inspire. The Annual Fund allows the Garden to maintain and increase plant collections, fund educational programs for children and adults, lead conservation projects throughout the Southwest and the world, and underwrite plant research. An Annual Fund gift supports the Garden mission:to advance excellence in education, research, exhibition and conservation of desert plants of the world and to always be a compelling attraction that brings to life the many wonders of the desert.
