Description

The Garden is proud to give students an in-depth look at their favorite groups of desert plants as part of the DBGenus series. Each plant grouping, or genus, will be examined in terms of taxonomy (classification), morphology (structure), ethnobotany and horticulture. This unique approach to the plants in the Garden's collection will provide new perspectives whether you are walking our trails, gardening in your backyard or just enjoying nature.

Explore the diversity of the one of the world's best known cacti, Opuntia. Known as the prickly pear to most people, we will delve into this amazing plant and some of its close relatives. This is a classroom and trailside experience.
