Southwest Shakespeare Company and Desert Botanical Garden collaborate on a new adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream
FairyWorlds!, a new adaptation of Shakespeare’s immortal A Midsummer Night’s Dream, produced by Southwest Shakespeare Company in partnership with Desert Botanical Garden, will be held May 15 - 18, 22 - 25, 29 - June 1, 2014. General seating tickets are $35 for Desert Botanical Garden members and Southwest Shakespeare Company subscribers and $40 for the general public. There will also be reserved table seating available (four guests per table) at $50 per person for Garden members and Southwest Shakespeare Company subscribers and $55 per person for the general public.
Southwest Shakespeare Company, the state’s classical theatre company, will produce FairyWorlds! This fully-professional production will feature top classical actors from Arizona and around the US. The Desert Botanical Garden will provide a natural, majestic nighttime backdrop in an innovative staging by Southwest Shakespeare Company’s Producing Artistic Director Jared Sakren. This new vision will include bold visual elements, stunning costumes, lighting and stage magic designed to highlight the surroundings of the Garden.
"FairyWorlds! is going to be one of the most, if not the most, exciting projects our company has ever undertaken,” said Jared Sarken, Southwest Shakespeare Company’s producing artistic director. “It is going to be dazzling, and great entertainment for the whole family. People will see Shakespeare very differently after they see this."
“The Garden is energized by our collaborative projects and FairyWorlds! is no exception,” said Ken Schutz, Desert Botanical Garden’s executive director. “Our environment – the plants, the backdrop of the Papago Buttes, and our mild weather offers a unique opportunity to celebrate nature and art.”
Guests will be able to purchase food from Fabulous Food Fine Catering and Events, and a full cash bar will be available. The play is suitable for ages six and older. FairyWorlds is sponsored in part by APS and McCarthy Construction.

SSC has the most extensive outreach and "in-reach" programs for the classics in the state and SSC’s student performance program draws student groups to Mesa from all corners of Arizona and parts of California, reaching nearly 140,000 students during its lifetime.
A “Phoenix Point of Pride,” the Desert Botanical Garden is one of only a few botanical gardens accredited by the American Association of Museums. It is a privately funded, non-profit organization and depends on revenues from admissions and gift shop sales, as well as contributions from individuals and businesses to fund its programs of environmental education, plant conservation and research.
