Wildflowers at the Garden
Visit the Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Trail to expereince a kaleioscope of color as desert wildflowers bloom throughout the spring.

Join Garden Docents during Flower Power weekend (March 8-9) for specialized tours of the Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Trail. Tours are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

During the months of March and April, visit the Garden's Wildflower InfoSite at www.dbg.org to find out where to see this season's displays of desert wildflowers. Click on the Statewide Wildflower Sightings link under News on the right side of the Garden's homepage.

Spring Butterfly Exhibit

Hundreds of colorful butterflies flutter around as you wander through the flower-filled lush gardens. Open for its seventh year, the Marshall Butterfly Pavilion is a butterfly lover’s delight. Watch as butterflies sip nectar from flowers, perch in sunny locations, and land on our visitors. Enjoy the special display areas featuring butterfly host plants, and a Discovery Station where you can see our scaly-winged friends up close. Additional support provided by The Fred Maytag Family Foundation.

Sybil B. Harrington Cactus and Succulent Galleries

Join us as we celebrate the grand opening of the new Sybil B. Harrington Cactus and Succulent Galleries, made possible by the Tending the Garden Campaign. With new shade structures designed by renowned landscape architect Steve Martino, combined with fresh garden design by Scott C. Scarfone, the galleries present the great diversity of form, texture and color found in the wondrous array of cactus and succulent plants from around the world.

The Galleries will be open for Garden members and the community. Everyone is invited! Opening activities are included with membership or paid Garden admission.

Mayme Kratz – Artist in Residence
Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Trail
November 2007-May 2008

Experience The Breathing Room, a living art installation by Arizona artist Mayme Kratz. Located on the Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Trail, this installation of desert plants and flowers will grow and blossom through early spring, inviting visitors to connect with nature, and experience the wonder and beauty of the Desert Botanical Garden. Once Mayme’s garden turns to seed, these collected elements of nature will become a part of her unique art, to be on exhibition in Ottosen Gallery. The Desert Botanical Garden will present an exhibition of the artwork of Mayme Kratz. Created from organic materials her work celebrates nature and cycles of change. Mayme’s creations of organic material suspended in resin create dynamic sculptural and two-dimensional works of art. Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Trail / Ongoing

Internationally acclaimed artist Patrick Dougherty has created a unique piece of art from willow saplings on the Harriet K. Maxwell Desert Wildflower Trail. During the installation process, Dougherty and Garden volunteers twisted and weaved together saplings to create a monumental sculpture inspired by the Garden's desert surroundings.

In its sixth year, the Mother’s Day Concert with Estéban has become a celebrated tradition at the Desert Botanical Garden. Bring Mom and the family to enjoy the unbelievable musical talents of Estéban in concert and an optional lunch provided by Fabulous Food Fine Catering & Events. Tickets are limited.
