"Which Came First, the Flower or the Seed?"

Overview:
This tour will lead students to explore the reproductive process of flowering plants.  Students investigate the structure of seeds, flowers and fruit, match plants with their pollinators and use a Punnett square to cross genetic traits.

Skills Used During this Tour:
  • Identify and draw parts of a seed
  • Infer relationships between specific plants and pollinators
  • Distinguish between a dry fruit and a fleshy fruit
  • Complete a Punnet square
Knowledge Outcomes:
  • Identify following plant structures: flowers, fruits, and seed
  • Understand pollination, fertilization, and fruit development process
  • Understand role of seed dormancy in the desert
  • Explain similarities and differences between how plants and people inherit traits
