Science Survival

Overview:
Students will enjoy being a real desert botanist and using their scientific process skills to investigate the adaptations of Sonoran plant life.  The tour will focus on desert leaves, seeds, and stems and roots.  Working in small groups, students will complete a variety of challenging and instructive experiments.

Skills Used During this Tour:

  1. Observe a variety of plants and their characteristics
  2. Collect data to be analyzed in small groups
  3. Construct graphs for data analysis to interpret and answer questions

Knowledge Outcomes:

  • Describe/define the scientific process
  • Understand that they are scientists (problem solvers)
  • Understand the steps of the scientific method
  • Understand what kind of graph to use for different types of data
