Student / Teacher Programs:
Learning in Nature's Classroom

Designed and taught by Desert Botanical Garden educators, we offer innovative field trips for grades PreK to 8. Our programs blend the
Garden’s unique resources with a hands-on, inquiry-based learning experience--and a dose of fun--to get students excited about nature.
Garden field trips are specifically designed to complement your school district’s educational objectives, and correlate with Arizona Academic Standards.

We are renown for advancing excellence in science education

  • Involve with interactive, hands-on experiences
  • Stimulate an interest in scientific concepts
  • Challenge with inquiry-based investigations
  • Nurture a stewardship of the desert
  • Encourage a natural curiosity about the world
  • Reinforce with pre-and-post-visit activities

Group tours for the 2007-2008 school year are available October 1 through May 23.

Marshall Butterfly Pavilion
A visit to the seasonal Butterfly Pavilion is the highlight of many students’ garden experience. The Fall 2007 Mariposa Monarch Butterfly Pavilion will be open from September 29 - November 11. This popular exhibit celebrates the migration of the monarch butterfly and features hundreds of monarchs. In 2008, the Spring Butterfly Pavilion will be open from March 1 - May 11. The spring exhibit features butterfly and moth species from North America, with a focus on the lifecycle of a butterfly. A visit to the Marshall Butterfly Pavilion may be added to any group garden visit for the additional fee of $1 and $2 in the Spring.

Title I Schools
We are committed to offering affordable programs for all students and schools. Effective October 2007
through February 2008 all Title I Schools will be admitted for free (bus transportation excluded).
