Butterfly Tag and Release

Migration of the monarch butterfly is one of the world’s greatest phenomena. Millions of these delicate creatures fly great distances to over wintering sites that they themselves have never visited. The most important method of tracking the migration is through tagging.

The Garden is pleased to partner with the Southwest Monarch Study to tag and release butterflies each Thursday. Come join us at 1:30 pm on the following dates:

  • October 4 , 11, 18 and 25
  • November 1, 8 and 15.

Reservations can be made by calling 480 481.8188. There is no additional charge for tagging for the general public with paid Garden admission. The tagging is limited to 50 participants each week.

Generously sponsored by Arizona Office Technologies with support from The Ferry Family Foundation in memory of Ernest S. and Virginia D. Ferry and the Consulate General of Mexico in Phoenix.
