Getting to Know Desert Soils
Visit our Center for Desert Living Trail, where visitors will get to touch soil and learn a few quick and simple tests to determine soil characteristics.
Pruning Tools: Selecting, Using, Maintaining and Sharpening
Visitors will learn how to select the best pruning tool for the job and how to get the best value when purchasing tools.
Vegetable Garden from Seed
10:30 a.m. AND 1:30 p.m.
In this hands-on demonstration, guests will learn how to start vegetables from seeds. Guests will take home their own planted seed. Limit 20, first come, first served.

Join this informative tour on the ten best herbs to grow in your garden. Learn the essential tips for growing these “scent”-sational herbs.
75 Years of Garden Memories
We want to hear about your memories at the Garden! Visitors can share their images or written memories on an interactive mural on display in Ottosen Gallery.
Making Flour from Mesquite Beans
Visit the Plants and People of the Sonoran Desert Trail to see how a mortar and pestle are used to grind mesquite beans and learn of its many uses.
Edible Plants of Arizona
Visit our Center for Desert Living Trail and discover the many types of edible plants that are found in Arizona.
Wellness at the Garden

Come learn about ancient meditation practices and how to enhance health and well-being with breathing and exercise practices.
Conservation Greenhouse Tours
Tours begin at 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Join Garden conservation scientists in a behind the scenes tour showcasing the Garden’s efforts to care for and protect rare, threatened and endangered desert species. Learn the remarkable stories of these plants.

The Desert Botanical Garden’s herbarium holds one of the world’s best collections of cacti and agave. Get an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the herbarium.
Celebrating 75 years of Garden Research at Schilling Library
Enjoy a presentation showcasing 75 years of research at the Garden.
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Experience the classic treasure hunt with a new twist. Using a GPS unit or smart device, test your navigational skills in the Garden to arrive at special stashes.
Children and Family Open House
Indoor and outdoor classroom space will be filled with hands-on, inquiry-based activities that highlight the programming for children and families at the Desert Botanical Garden.
