Desert Landscaper School





Receive in-depth training in landscaping with desert-adapted plants by signing up for Desert Landscaper School. Spend one morning a week with the horticulture staff at the Desert Botanical Garden.
Since 1997, the Desert Landscaper School has trained people with a wide variety of backgrounds, aptitudes, previous knowledge and goals. Among the School’s special features are:
- Access to the Garden's extensive collection of desert plants
- Hands-on based training in horticultural techniques, with a focus on skill development rather than extensive classroom training
- Knowledgeable staff instructors
- Classes in English and Spanish
- Referral services for program graduates
- Open to all – no prior experience required, just the physical ability and desire to do landscaping work

About the Program
Established in response to the hundreds of requests for qualified desert landscapers the Garden receives each year, the Desert Landscaper School will teach you topics like:
- How to care for all the major groups of desert plants
- Master important landscaping skills such as pruning, irrigation and integrated pest management
- How to integrate the concepts and skills learned during the first two sessions in a comprehensive landscape installation project
Meet a unique and diverse student body. Work, learn, network, create lasting friendships – and graduate as a Certified Desert Landscaper – all with the Desert Landscaping School!
Fall 2010 Session
- When: School starts the second week in September. See a Class Schedule
- Where: Archer House Classroom at the Garden
- Day: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday morning (afternoon class taught in Spanish)
- Time: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Spanish language class from 1 to 5 p.m.)
- Cost: $400 per 10-week session, or all three sessions plus a Garden membership for $1,275
