Landscape for Life TM, developed by the United States Botanic Garden (USBG) and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, is based on the principles of the Sustainable Sites Initiative TM. The Garden is pleased to present this series to help homeowners become better stewards of the land by implementing sustainable practices that can restore and protect the environment for future generations.

Five lessons explore the roles of the five universal elements of residential landscapes: water, soils, plants, plant practices and materials. You will create a base map of your property, use your map to assess your site and then, learn how to implement sustainable practices by incorporating the five elements in your landscapes. The classes are designed to engage you and to examine each topic through a combination of presentations, class discussions, exercises and field trips.

  • Class enrollment limit: 20
